Pafuri Camp is situated between the Limpopo and the Luvuvhu Rivers in the northern sector of Kruger National Park. This vast area is the ancestral home of the Makuleke people and is one of the most diverse and scenically attractive areas in the national park.
This far-north region of the park is considered one of Kruger's biodiversity hotspots, with some of the largest herds of elephant and buffalo that concentrate around the permanent waters of the Luvuvhu River in the dry winter months. Leopard and lion are also prevalent, and birdlife is incredibly prolific.
Accommodations consist of 20 tented rooms, each with en-suite facilities. Each of these spacious, light tented rooms look onto the Luvuvhu River, where guests can sit on their own private deck and watch for elephant, nyala, waterbuck or bushbuck coming down to drink.
Activities in the Makuleke / Pafuri region area are varied and interesting. Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, night drives, walks, and hides are all part of the range of activities available. Aside from wildlife, another equally important aspect of this area is its palaeo-anthropological history, with an abundance of evidence of early human ancestors stretching back some two million years. The Thulamela dynasty that once ruled this area built incredible structures not dissimilar to those found in Zimbabwe. Throughout the concession, there are rock paintings and artifacts such as Stone Age hand tools and hand axes that can still be found under the baobab trees.
