Location
Khwai Private Wildlife Reserve, Botswana
This traditional tented camp with just eight Meru-style tents maximizes its location at the edge of the private Khwai wildlife refuge—an expanse of nearly a half-million acres teeming with Botswana’s most famous wildlife. Contemporary canvas tents harbor airiness with spacious windows and light-toned wood finishes while evoking a classic safari atmosphere. Tents are raised on wooden platforms and well-positioned to maximize privacy, with relaxing decks with chairs to take in views across the grasslands. Solar-powered electricity is available in each tent, and en suite bathrooms include ample hot water. A sunken lounge and fire pit lures guests to gather between game drives and share stories throughout the evening. Dine at a single long table en plein air under the central thatched roof, sharing views across the plains that are a favorite grazing area for elephant herds. In the communal space, there’s ample space for photo editing and charging points for camera gear, too.
From the camp’s exceptional location, you’ll take game drives and walking safaris with indigenous guides into the Khwai Reserve, looking for lion, leopard, wild dog and sable antelope, among many other species. And when the seasonal waters allow, take a trip down the Khwai River by traditional mokoro, a poled canoe. Night drives may offer glimpses of leopard, porcupine and feisty honey badger.
