Maswik Lodge

Originally established in 1927 as a motor lodge, Maswik accommodated a growing demand from visitors who wanted to drive to the Grand Canyon instead of taking a train or carriage ride. Over the decades, the motor lodge expanded with the addition of cabins and other amenities, but those structures and spaces were demolished by the 1960s and replaced by contemporary two-story hotels in 1972 and 1981. Only the stone pillars of the original property remain.
Today, the 280-room complex is organized into a central lobby with an open lounge, gift shop, multiple restaurants, cafes and grab-and-go offerings. Guest rooms are in Maswik Lodge North and Maswik Lodge South, which recently underwent a $30 million renovation. This is where we stay, in contemporary spacious rooms built to LEED Silver standards and incorporating eco-friendly materials and fixtures.
Featuring two queen beds and a nature-inspired décor with bright accents reminiscent of the southwestern sun on the canyon’s red rocks, each room has a private balcony or patio and en suite bathroom. Additional amenities include air conditioning, a safe and satellite TV. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Set in a ponderosa pine forest about a quarter mile from the canyon’s edge, the lodge is “dark sky compliant,” reducing light pollution to enhance stargazing. Its commitment to sustainability extends to a recycling program that composts grounds from coffee pods and food waste, and an innovative gray water system.
