Kulala Wilderness Camp

Kulala Wilderness Reserve, Namibia
Kulala Wilderness Camp is situated in the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, the only reserve with direct access to the world-famous Sossusvlei. The camp offers magnificent dune scenery to the west and a rugged, mountainous Namib escarpment to the north and east, with grassy plains and “fairy circles” filling the space in between. The camp lies at the foot of a west-facing mountain to catch the majestic Namibian sunsets.
The camp comprises 10 comfortable kulalas (meaning "to sleep" in Oshiwambo) with en-suite bathrooms and verandas built on elevated platforms for spectacular views. The main area is also raised to take advantage of the sweeping vista and includes a lounge and bar under thatch. Meals are taken on the deck, and guests can cool off in the sparkling pool. A fully stocked bar provides refreshments, and traditional three-course dinners are served. At night, the common area is lit by atmospheric lanterns. On the edge of the oldest desert in the world, wildlife here is fascinating in its ability to adapt to the harsh conditions. Sightings of animals such as springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, bat-eared fox and aardwolf, which thrive despite such rugged conditions, is an exciting highlight.
Early morning game drives through a private gate into the reserve take guests close to the spectacular towering dunes. Guided drives and walks are also offered on the private reserve, with incredible views, desert animals and smaller desert fauna and flora on display. Another option, at extra cost, is a balloon safari at first light, offering a truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and desert, ending with a champagne breakfast.
