King Salmon Lodge
King Salmon, Alaska
Perched on a bluff overlooking the Naknek River, this well-appointed wilderness lodge offers rustic luxury on the edge of Katmai National Park. Surrounded by spruce and birch trees, the lodge has direct access to a world-famous stretch of the Naknek renowned for its abundant rainbow trout and annual salmon runs, long attracting anglers—but it's an equally coveted base for bear viewing, given its proximity to Katmai's most famous bear hotspots on the Brooks River, just 15 minutes away by floatplane. The lodge is a haven for wildlife in itself, too, including moose, river otters, foxes, bald eagles, Arctic hares and a multitude of migratory birds.
The main lodge building serves as a central gathering place with an inviting lounge featuring leather sofas and anchored by a river rock fireplace. Enjoy a drink at the cocktail bar, then indulge in a classically Alaskan meal of fresh-caught fish and locally grown produce in the riverside dining room, where large picture windows frame scenic views. A expansive outdoor deck overlooks the river, and Adirondack chairs throughout the property offer additional spots to kick back in the fresh air. Accommodations are in individual log cabins and guest rooms within the main lodge. With log and knotty pine accents, all rooms feature an en suite bathroom, two full-sized beds or one king, 40-inch TV, WiFi, Keurig coffee makers and small refrigerators stocked with cold beverages.
