Hali Country Hotel
Vatnajokull region, Iceland
This small hotel is located on Hali Farm, home to 200 sheep, which has been owned by the same family since 1860. Today, the fifth and sixth generations run the farm and hotel. In contrast to its rural location, the hotel offers modern accommodations with a minimalist feel, tempered with cozy wood accents. Guest rooms have plenty of amenities, including en suite bathrooms with shower, floor heating, comfortable beds, work desk, armchair and table, wardrobe, flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi. Rooms have a view of either the Atlantic Ocean on the south, high mountains to the north, or the Vatnajokull Glacier to the west. The hotel’s location in southeast Iceland offers excellent proximity to the glacier, iceberg lagoons and black sand beaches. The restaurant is located in the adjacent Porbergur cultural heritage center, where the region’s history is showcased in a contemporary museum. It features traditional Icelandic dishes such as farm-raised lamb, seafood soup, fresh-caught arctic char, and home-baked cakes.
