Olakira Migration Camp
Location
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Olakira Camp is a mobile base for viewing the Great Migration throughout the seasons. The luxury tented camp is optimally positioned in the Ndutu region of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area from December through late March as the herds gather to drop their young. Morning and afternoon game drives reveal an abundance of wildebeest and accompanying zebra, but also gazelle, predators, birds and a host of other species that inhabit the plains. The camp is closed during the rainy season of April and May, then moves to the northern Serengeti Mara River where the herds attempt to cross the crocodile-infested Mara River to reach new grass in the northern Serengeti and Maasai Mara.
Olakira Camp embodies the romance of a classic African safari. Its nine, airy Meru-style tents are spaced with privacy in mind. Furnished in earth tones accented with orange and gold, each has a king-size or twin beds, cozy rugs, campaign chairs, writing desk and a daybed for relaxing in between safari drives. En suite bathrooms have a safari-style shower, wash basin and flush toilet. The central guest area consists of a lounge tent with comfortable sofas, floor cushions, and a small library of books and African games. The open-air dining tent serves family-style dinners under canvas by lantern light, with private tables available upon request. Bush picnics are a daytime option, enhancing the spirit of adventure.
